The success of any Product Business or Product Company, is to create something which many people wants to buy, which people like , which people want to use . And when this liking, using, buying happens quickly, its also called a disruption in the market. Apple has done it multiple times. Amazon, Tesla, Samsung, Google, Boss, Facebook has does it too often .

But when we create something only because it is there, in the Purchase Order of an IT department of a buyer, it might not result into disruption, or mass liking or mass usage or mass buying, or worldwide craze. Forget mass, even the business user of that buyer might not use it….

For this there are two options — — -

  1. Option One

Either the creator, creating that functionality has to be a genius, who will create it in such a manner, that he has done market research, has envisioned what & how the users of the world would want , like , and use and would create it, in that way . And automatically after deployment , people will fall in love with it. This is rare.

2. Option Two.

Do not just develop something in isolation because it is in the Purchase Order. Understand its scope, applicability, probability of liking & using it, by your target future customers. Do market research, discuss with solution architects, develop prototypes , give sample to some test subject companies ( for free ) for feedbacks and revise your prototypes based on feedbacks. Interact more with the actual user ( business users ) , not just the buyer ( IT ), to develop , revise & correct your prototypes, through agile ways. Before demo-ing any prototype to customer, the development team, should give demo of it to internal product team, product owners and solution architects.

If you develop your product because it is in the Purchase Order provided by the buyer’s IT department, you only get the specs from that IT department , you only reviews & demos only with the IT department, do demo to actual business user, only prior to UAT, then its Pure luck if actual users will use that product after deployment , Or its unlikely that you will create any disruption when you go with that feature to the world market.
